Had some strange days at the E.D. Some crazy busy and some pretty quiet, although we never say the word quiet! I haven't had to ride on a transport in over a year and last week I went on two. The first was a bad MI patient who had chest pain since the previous morning (while driving his tractor trailer). Sure enough he was having a heart attack. The helicopter wasn't flying as the weather was bad so I got to ride along as we had given him thrombolytics. Usually the medics can do all the transfers, but it someone is intubated, on Diprivan, receiving blood or had thrombolytics a nurse gets to go. Anyway it was a peaceful ride, we gave lot's of good drugs and the patient slept most of the way. He was so grateful for finally being almost pain free. The ride to Burlington takes about an hour and 15 minutes with lights and sirens. Middlebury is always fun as no one wants to get out of the way. Here are a couple of pictures..oh and the next day I went on a ride again with a bad head injury. Again made it up safely. I always feel a little guilty as I have a medic and sometimes even a respiratory therapist riding along and we leave the department short taking care of many patients and I only have one!
