October 30, 2013

Well it actually snowed a little today!  The blacksmith was supposed to come at 9am, the hospital called at 8 to see if I could work call in...I told them I would call back after he finished and guess what, He cancelled!  And of course the time is covered now!  oh well, I really didn't want to work anyway!  Just figured with Christmas coming and such...

We've had a busy summer, Molly worked at DHMC and at Rutland.  She's back in school now and very busy with her senior year.  Can't believe it's her last!  She will be doing senior rotation in the operating room 2nd semester at dhmc.  They have 28 OR's!  She's very excited.

We built Ansel a new barn this fall, also successfully moved the old run in shed so John can store some of his stuff in it.  He loves the barn and so do I!  Its got a beautiful stall, tack room and hay storage.  John is almost done with the wiring so it will have plenty of light and hook ups and I'll be able to use my water tank heater this winter without blowing the breaker in the house!!  It's such a pleasure working with him on my days off.  Also to have all my tack and supplies right at the barn, no more lugging the saddle and everything to the house and up the stairs.

Tucker is great, we walk regularly 3-5 miles (around Grant's or down to Krupp's and back)  He also enjoys going to the camp and running in the meadow in West Haven.

I finished my Clinical Ladder renewal for the hospital and present it November 19th.  It was a lot of work, but definitely worth it ($2/hour more)  Now I'm good for 3 years.  I also just completed my Neonatal Resuscitation Program and was certified.  This stemmed from an event this summer where a woman pulled up to the front of the hospital and had almost delivered a 28 week pregnancy in the car...very scary and amazingly the child lived.  (2 lbs and was helicoptered to a NICU after stabilized the best that we could)

Next is ACLS renewal in December, then I think I'm done for a while!  I'm also waiting to hear from my SANE-A certification renewal.  I had to submit all my CEU's and hopefully won't have to take that test again!

Here's some pictures from events this summer.

Well Molly's break went by fast.  She had her surgery in December for the ACL tear and is doing well, off crutches now.  She is doing PT with the trainer at school twice weekly.  She started her pediatric rotation last week.  It's been very cold here, -17 last week, supposedly up to 40 degrees this week.  We have a little snow, but not like the past couple of years.

tucker in the snow

2012 is almost over!

So it's been a long time since I've posted!  John got a deer on the second day of deer season, Molly had a great semester at school, (excluding her knee problems), but now they are over, her surgery was successfully done on December 18th.  She had a femoral nerve block that lasted 36 hours!  We arrived at the hospital at 0830, she got her iv and was supposed to go in at  11:30.  They didn't do the block until 11:30, then OR at 12:30, out by 1:45.  In recovery til about 3.  She got lots of meds, woke up comfortable, but when she first tried to use crutches got very dizzy.  We waited another hour or so, I went and got her prescriptions while she had an english muffin and ginger ale and then PT worked with her again.  We arrived home about 6:30, pouring rain, and still very sleepy, unsteady.  She got into the house, then lost her balance and almost fell getting onto the couch.  I was a bit panicky, but felt better after talking to Cookie.  (thanks cookie!!).  Anyway, had her post op check up on Friday, (the day after the noreaster) and did very well.  they were pleased, her stitches were out and she starts PT this week.  she was given all the exercises to do, and has been doing some on her own at home.  Straight leg raises and heel slides etc. the swelling has gone down, still bruised, but much better!  We plan on picking up the attachments for her crutches for snow and ice...she got the ok to drive so is eager to "get going and get out of the house".
